The operating system that until now was believed to be Key Lime Pie has shocked many after the company decided to call it Android KitKat, after the chocolate bar from the Swiss based Nestle. Android 4.4 KitKat features and release date speculations are going viral at the moment
Continuing the tradition that started with Android Cupcake that was launched in 2009, the company has rolled out the latest version 4.4 that is named after the global chocolate bar KitKat.
Speaking about the decision, Marc Vanlerberghe, Director of Android Marketing, said: “We couldn’t imagine a better name for our Android K release than the tasty chocolate that’s been a favorite among the team since the early days of Android.”
Patrice Bula, Nestlé’s Head of Marketing, said: “We’re excited to announce this partnership with Android, the world’s most popular mobile platform, which will help us to enable even more KitKat fans to enjoy their break.”
On its part Nestle who has already started the campaign for the new OS will launch the Android KitKat in the UK by offering prizes through more than 50 million specially branded KitKat bars. Apart from this the consumers in the UK can also participate in the contest via special packs of KitKat Four-Finger and KitKat Chunky multipacks available in Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, ASDA and Tesco.
The consumers can then go to the website android.com/kitkat where they have a chance to win prizes including 1,000 Google Nexus 7 tablets or one of 50,000 £5 credits for Google Play, Google’s online store for apps, games, music, movies, books and more.
In a message Head of Android, Sundar Pichai wrote:
“On my return from Asia, I was thrilled to find this guy waiting to greet me on the front lawn — love the new #AndroidKitKat statue and can’t wait to release the next version of the platform that is as sweet as the candy bar that’s one of our team’s favourites.”
