We’ve had a good look at everything TataSky Broadband offers, to try and find out. Here’s what you can get, how TataSky broadband compares to other providers, and our final verdict.

Cost

For just broadband and home phone, prices are reasonable from TataSky Broadband – it’s not a budget provider, but it shouldn’t break the bank either.

With the recent changes in pricing, the tariff is more on less similar to what JIO, Airtel and ACT broadband has to offer. The downside is that you do not receive any free add-ons similar to what is offered by JIO or Airtel.

Reputation

Internet providers are among the most derided companies in the country, with customers complaining about everything from unexpected price jumps to slower-than-advertised speeds.

TataSky Broadband fares under par than many of their competitors by not delivering on their promised speeds, and not imposing data which wasn’t in place earlier. The biggest gripe among customers seems to be the company’s less-than-knowledgeable customer service agents.

Speed

TataSky broadband packages are available: with speeds ranging from  50 to 300 Mbps. That’s not half bad, especially for the fibre packages but then that’s the highest speeds TataSky Broadband has to offer; unlike most of the competitors now offering Gigabit speeds.

TataSky’s once unlimited broadband is not truly unlimited anymore. That means there is a  usage cap of 1500GB per month post with the traffic management would reduce the speed according to the plan chosen.

However, be careful if you choose TataSky Broadband since the speeds are not consistent. You might encounter issues with packet loss and network connectivity which are not usually caught in a standard speed test. 4K switches to HD often during streaming content over Netflix & Prime video which is not ideal.

Technicians do not honour the tech visit tickets and customers usually end up raising multiple tickets to which they’re offered a standard bot like response.

Tech – Installation & Equipment

After a feasibility check, the technician would visit the premise for installation during which you have to opt a plan and pay the package charges upfront. You could avail free installation and WiFi router if you opt for subscription 3 months or higher.

If you live in an apartment provisioned for fiber connectivity, the installation would be seamless. If not, you might have to opt for the copper cabling or fiber through non standard non-concealed channels. Bear in mind the technicians would always suggest the easiest method but one should insist for a standard installation if possible.

If your premise supports fiber connectivity to home Tata sky broadband typically provides you with a Nokia Fiber router which has telephone capability too but if otherwise they would provide you with an inferior router which is probably refurbished.

Our Verdict

TataSky Broadband is on a par with competitors when it comes to pricing, and better than many but their support is almost non-existent with ill-informed/ignorant team members and technicians.

Perhaps TataSky Broadband’s biggest strength (possibly in the future) is its ability to offer a complete home entertainment bundle under one roof. With TV, phone, broadband, you can get everything sorted for one monthly price, with one point of contact for support.

TataSky Broadband could be a good choice for some, based on their region but the equipment offered by them are very basic and overall has been a huge letdown to the brand name.
