Root Transmission Roots Other Devices Using Your Phone

There are often numerous methods to root any given device. Some do it manually using ADB or terminal, some use one-click toolkits or custom root scripts. The trouble is, more often than not, these methods require the use of a computer.

XDA Forum Member wchill developed another useful method that doesn’t rely on having a computer. Root Transmission is an app that allows you to root a phone using only your own device. The app requires a rooted host device with USB OTG support. All you then need is a USB OTG cable and a one-click root script for the device you wish to root.

Performing the procedure is as simple as clicking the “Root!” button. While the rooting is being carried out, the app displays a terminal window in order to let you monitor the process as it happens.

The dev states that this version is somewhat unstable, and there will be the occasional force close, though they will most likely not cause any serious issues. And of course, the root process is only as good as the root script, so ensure you use reliable sources.

It should be noted that not all devices are supported. In a nutshell, if there is a root method for the device that uses ADB, then it will work. Devices that rely on other programs such as Odin to gain root will not work using this method. Future plans are to have downloadable root scripts within the app, an improved GUI and in app help.

If you’d like to give the app a try, head on over to the Root Transmission thread.
